Beetle window seals
There are 4 kinds of Beetle window rubbers.
The "Cal Look" rubbers are black or white and a bit bulgy at the outside. Ideal for adding the “Cal Look” or "Old School" to your Beetle. Besides they’re very profitable.
The "Standard" rubbers are used on the original Economy-bug. These rubbers are totally flat and have no provision for a chrome strip.
The "Old type Deluxe" rubbers are the ones used on the "export" cars till ’71. They have a provision for a chrome strip in aluminium with bulgy profile.
The "New type Deluxe" rubbers are provided for a plastic T-profile chrome strip. They are used for cars ‘72 >. These are the rubbers of German origin, made in accordance with the Volkswagen production method. Many of the mouldings are the mouldings that were used for the production of Volkswagen itself! These rubbers come with pre-moulded corners, the only ones in the entire industry and so also the only ones that are really tight!
In general there’s a lot of confusion concerning the rear window. The window is changed with the ’72 type. At the same time, the windscreen wiper switch changed. On a ’71 type, this switch stands on the dashboard, just like the light switch. From model year 1972 the switch was positioned on the steering column just as the direction indicator switch. The window model changed in August, except 1302 which was developed with 2 rear window sizes, it changed in 08/71 to a bigger model till end of production in 07/72).
